Peter Goodman is a member of the Firm, and has over thirty years of accomplished legal practice, including significant experience in employment law. He handles all aspects of the employer/employee relationship under federal, state and local employment laws, including counseling and litigating with respect to hiring practices, employment agreements, employee handbooks and policies, discipline, terminations, unlawful employment practices such as discrimination and retaliation, independent contractor/employee classification, and wage and hour issues.
Mr. Goodman’s practice is oriented toward achieving practical solutions which avoid costly disputes. However, if litigation is unavoidable, Mr. Goodman is a tough adversary, but is surgical and litigates efficiently. He has extensive experience prosecuting and defending claims in state and federal courts, and regularly handles the defense of charges brought before administrative agencies and commissions such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, New York State Division of Human Rights, New York City Commission on Human Rights, and the New York State Department of Labor.
Mr. Goodman also has broad experience litigating and arbitrating many types of business disputes covering a variety of industries, including: staffing, market research, financial services, technology, insurance brokerage, manufacturing, distribution, licensing, utility cost consulting, and real estate, including cooperatives and condominiums.
Mr. Goodman is a frequent speaker and writer on various issues of topical interest in employment law, and some of his recent writings can be found in the News section. He is also a leader of the bar, having served as the Chair of the New York City Bar Association’s Committee on Courts of Superior Jurisdiction, and on the City Bar’s Labor and Employment Committee.
